'Miracle' rescue: Hikers missing for more than a week rescued in California

A California couple in their 70s, missing for more than a week after they got lost on a Valentines hike, were airlifted to safety on February 22 by a helicopter from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s office.

Hundreds of people helped search for the couple. After the pair were found by volunteers authorities called in helicopter support.

KTVU news said a local sheriff described their rescue as a “miracle.”

The couple, Carol Kiparsky and Ian Irwin, were taken to hospital for treatment, authorities said. The Sonoma Sheriff reported that they gave their permission for the release of this video of the difficult rescue.

This story was reported from New York.
