Jobless father's desperate attempt to find work pays off

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Brett Puttick was in desperate need to work. He says he was out of a job and out of money and nothing was coming his way.

The Perth, Australia construction worker had joked a few weeks ago that he was going to sit on the side of the road with a sign because he was so sick of not being able to get a job to provide for his partner and their young son.

The joke turned into reality when he actually did sit on the side of the road in his work clothes and a sign that said "work needed".

Troy Reid from 123 Tradies, a site that connects trade workers and clients, saw him on the side of the road.  He took a picture of Puttick and posted it Facebook.

Several people stopped by to see him on the side of the road and get his contact information.

Within hours, Puttick had an offer to start work the very next day.
