Hard seltzer is latest booze trend

It's the new trend: drinking alcohol and feeling skinny. Two men from Westport, Connecticut -- Nick Shields and David Holmes -- saw that they could do more with sparkling water.

Their product is called SpikedSeltzer. It's 6 percent alcohol, all natural, low-carb and gluten-free. Shields and Holmes describe it as very light and crisp. Spiked Seltzer boomed this past year. Right now mostly women are drinking it.

Katie Pierce, a bartender at the House of Brews, says it is fruity and easy drinking. Those who have tasted it say you can't taste the alcohol.

The alcohol in SpikedSeltzer comes from natural fermentation, like with beer, and not from distilled spirits.

SpikedSeltzer is sold in New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and California. We did ask Nick and David if they would expand and go internationally. They said that is in their plans but first they want to make sure he does well in places like New York City.
