Girl raped in Manhattan school

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - A girl was raped inside of a Manhattan school on Monday and a classmate is under arrest.

Police say it happened at The Washington Irving Campus in Gramercy Park.  The 16-year-old was assaulted in a stairwell.

Police arrested 18-year-old Jevon Martin of Brooklyn on 1st degree rape charges.

The Department of Education issued a stateemnt saying, "This troubling incident was immediately reported and we are working closely with the NYPD as they conduct an investigation. We are treating this with the utmost seriousness and are providing the campus with additional guidance and safety supports."
