Deadly drive-by shooting on scooters

BRONX - Four people were shot, including one fatally, by shooters riding on scooters Tuesday evening on a street corner in the Bronx, the NYPD said.
According to authorities, the incident happened around 6:15 p.m. near Mount Eden Avenue and Townsend Avenue.
Two scooters with two men on each approached four men standing on the southwest corner of the intersection, police said.

NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell and Kaz Daughtry, deputy commissioner of operations, joined Good Day New York to discuss.
The men on the back of the scooters pulled out firearms and fired around 10 rounds at the men, striking all four victims, police said.
Three of the victims, ranging in age from 23 to 37, were shot in the leg, while a 29-year-old man – identified as Miguel Doleo of the Bronx – was shot in the chest and leg. He later died.
The shooters fled on their scooters, heading northbound on Townsend Avenue toward the Cross-Bronx Expressway.
"The perpetrators wore masks and hoodies to block their identities and then they fled on the scooters northbound," Assistant Police Chief Benjamin Gurley said.

4 shot, 1 killed in the Bronx by gunmen
Four people were shot — one fatally — on a street corner in the Bronx Tuesday evening by shooters riding on scooters.
One person was taken into custody for questioning, but Gurley said police were unsure if the person was involved in the shooting.
Police are still investigating whether the victims were targeted by the shooters or if there were any gang ties to the shooting. The conditions of the three surviving victims were not immediately released.
The police department's Community Response Team has been working in the Bronx since April 1, aggressively targeting criminals on scooters, Deputy Police Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said.
The department has taken 9,500 scooters, dirt bikes and ATVs off the streets since Jan. 1, including 2,500 in the Bronx, Daughtry said.
"This is a prime example of why we're doing this," he said.
