Former Miss Teen Universe dead from heart attack

Model Lotte van der Zee, a 20-year-old former beauty queen, died after suffering a heart attack during a ski trip in Austria, according to published reports.

The winner of the 2017 Miss Teen Universe died on Wednesday at a hospital in Munich. She had been placed in a medically induced coma two weeks earlier.

The Holland native had failed to show up for breakfast with her parents at a resort in Austria. When they went to check on her, they found her ill and in bed. Later that day her sickness "swiftly escaated in sudden cardiac arrest," reported The Sun.

Her mother reportedly resusciated her before rushing her to an Austrian hospital. She was later transferred to the hospital in Germany.

Tests were being done to deterine what caused the heart attack.

Her parents, Bert van der Zee and Eugeniek van het Hul, took to Instagram to express their sorrow.

"Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47. It is incredibly surreal that our dearly beloved Lotte is not around us anymore. "Our hearts are truly broken. We would like to thank you all again for all the support and heartwarming messages."
