Illegal street race ends in fiery crash

Dramatic video shows the moment a car burst into flames while fleeing from a police officer during an illegal street race in New Mexico.
What we know:
According to the Farmington Police Department, an officer spotted two cars street-racing at about 11:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26. The officer tried to stop both vehicles, but one of the drivers fled.
Seconds later, video released by Farmington police shows the fleeing car crash into another car, veer off the roadway, then slam into a parked car before immediately bursting into flames.

The video shows officers dragging a man away from the burning car. Two men, a 27-year-old and a 20-year-old, were injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Kalynn Kenworthy, the driver of the other car caught street-racing, was charged with racing on highways.
Police said Kenworthy, 22, has an extensive history of traffic violations, including racing in August 2025 and in 2023. She’s been cited for speeding over seven times in the past four years, each of them for going more than 15 mph over the posted speed limit.
What we don't know:
It’s unclear how seriously the men were injured. Police said additional charges are pending for the driver who was hurt.

What they're saying:
Farmington police said they released the video to "highlight the dangers of street racing."
"Street racing is dangerous, illegal, and puts lives at risk," the department said.
