Cracks in Manhattan building forces out tenants

Authorities evacuated a residential building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan Thursday after cracks appeared in exterior walls.

Department of Buildings workers came to examine the building at 300 East 96 Street and ordered the evacuation.

Residents of 25 apartments and workers at one store cleared out. The American Red Cross helped residents relocate.

The FDNY said no one was hurt.

The Department of Buildings continues to inspect the building and investigate what happened.
