CNN fires Kathy Griffin for Trump head video

CNN cut ties Wednesday with comedian Kathy Griffin after a photo shoot depicting her holding President Donald Trump's severed head was published.

The cable news network, whose New Year's Eve coverage Griffin has co-hosted for a decade, called the images "disgusting and offensive."

Griffin apologized late Tuesday for the video.

Trump took to social media to says Griffin "should be ashamed of herself."

In a post on his Twitter account Wednesday morning, the president said, "My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!"

Griffin's annual partner for those Times Square telecasts, CNN correspondent Anderson Cooper, weighed in with his own reprimand: "For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in," he tweeted. "It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate."

Griffin's trademark comedy style trades on a self-deprecating streak (she brands herself as mired on the "D List" of show biz) while she targets celebs who are higher up the food chain.
