Clothing line for kids with disabilities

NEW JERSEY (FOX 5 NEWS) - Oliver Scheier, 11, shows us how he dresses himself thanks to magnets sewn inside the fabric of his shirt hidden by regular buttons. Oliver has a rare form of muscular dystrophy that makes it difficult to do things like button-up his shirt. Three years ago he asked his mom for help.

Mindy Scheier, a mother of three who lives in Livingston, New Jersey, has worked in the fashion industry her whole career. Scheier met the challenge. Her son inspired her to two create a nonprofit called Runway of Dreams.

Mindy spent six months researching children with all kinds of disabilities to figure out how to make it easier for them to get dressed. Jeans have magnets that replace the zipper. A shirt opens up in the back. She has clothing for amputees and wheelchair-bound with sleeves and legs that clothing adjust in length.

Her small nonprofit got a big boost from major fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. Hilfiger and Runway of Dreams debuted the 22-piece collection this week. It is now available online.

Now thanks to mom, Oliver can be just like the other kids and get dressed for school by himself.
