Chemical liquid thrown at woman's face

A woman is hospitalized with third-degree burns after a man splashed an unknown liquid in her face in Queens.

It happened at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday as the woman was getting in her car at the corner of 33rd Street and 43rd Avenue in Sunnyside.

The attacker called out to her and tossed the liquid as she turned around, according to police. He then ran away.

The 56-year-old victim suffered third-degree burns to her face and chest. She's listed in stable condition at NY-Cornell Hospital.

The attacker, possibly in his 30s, was not known to the victim.

It was not immediately known what the liquid contained.  Police have not made an arrest and continue to investigate.
