Brooklyn boy, 3, dies after horrific abuse: cops

UPDATE:  The boy in this case has died.

This is the previous story:

A man in Brooklyn is suspected of abusing his girlfriend's son and fracturing his skull. Jaden Jordan, 3, is now hooked up to a ventilator and fighting for his life.

Police have charged Salvatore Lucchesse, 24, with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years old.

Officers were dispatched to a home on West 5th St. in the borough's Gravesend section on Monday afternoon following reports that the boy was in cardiac arrest.

The child was rushed to Coney Island Hospital after first responders found him unconscious and suffering from a skull fracture. He remains in critical condition.

Luchesse first said the child had slipped in the bathtub and that he had given him CPR. He also reportedly told police that the boy had soiled his pants and was giving him a shower to clean him off when he fell.

According to the NY Daily News, a neighbor had called police three days earlier saying a girl had been locked inside a dog crate in the home, but gave the wrong address.

"The NYC Administration for Children's Services is saddened by this upsetting news,'' the agency said in a statement. We are investigating the circumstances that led to this incident," the statement read.

NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, who is leading an investigation into ACS following the tragic death of Zymere Perkins, who also died as a result of abuse, called the boy's death horrific.

"It’s heartbreaking. We must know what happened and why, because this is happening too often. We can’t allow a single child to slip through the cracks," said Stringer.
