Britney Spears postpones Las Vegas residency due to father's illness

Britney Spears is taking a break from performing to spend time with her sick father.

The Grammy-winning singer is putting her new Las Vegas show, Britney: Dominion, on indefinite hiatus so she can focus on her dad, Jamie Spears, who is trying to recover from a life-threatening illness.

"I've been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart," Britney wrote on Instagram to her fans. "However, it's important to always put your family first."

Two months ago, Jamie Spears was rushed to a hospital in Vegas where he underwent surgery for a ruptured colon. Britney said he almost died.

"We're all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him," the singer wrote. "I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time."

Britney: Dominion was set to premiere at the Park MGM (formerly the Monte Carlo) in February.
