Baseball player still in critical condition after shooting
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - An Oakland Athletics minor leaguer is fighting for his life after he was shot in a fast-food parking lot in New York.
23-year-old Mike Nolan remains in critical condition after surgery Saturday at a New York City hospital.
Nolan was shot multiple times early Friday in the parking lot of a Burger King restaurant just outside the city in Yonkers. Police have made no arrests.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano asked residents to pray for "one of our own" during this difficult time.
He was standing outside his car on Central Park Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. with friends when he was struck. Police said they believe that he was targeted. Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said he believes the shooting happened after a dispute the Nolan or the group he was with was possibly involved in Wednesday night. [SEE PHOTO GALLERY]
The Oakland Athletics drafted the 6-foot, 7-inch Nolan in 2014. He dreamed of playing in the big leagues.
Yonkers Police detectives are asking the public to call 914-377-7724 with leads or any other information.
Nolan played collegiately at Oklahoma City University. Oakland selected the left-handed pitcher in the 18th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.
He graduated from a high school in Yonkers.
