Apple replacing pistol emoji with a water gun

Apple is replacing its pistol emoji with a water gun.

In the next version of Apple's iPhone and iPad operating system, iOS 10, the black and silver revolver is out and a green and orange squirt gun is in.  Apple did not comment on the change in a release on the new emojis.  Instead, it boosted that it had "more gender diverse emoji" coming.

It stated:  "This exciting update brings more gender options to existing characters, including new female athletes and professionals, adds beautiful redesigns of popular emoji, a new rainbow flag and more family options."

The pistol emoji has caused a few problems in the past.  In one case, a  12-year-old was accused by police of posting a death threat because of an Instagram post with the pistol.

The iOS 10 update is expected to be released in September.
