Hundreds chanted and waved signs and discussed the next four years in front of Trump Tower Thursday. Thousands more marched in Colorado and Wisconsin. Police in Portland, Oregon, called protests there Thursday "riots."

In the midst of demonstrations all across the country objecting to his election, President-Elect Donald Trump tweeted: "Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters incited by the media are protesting. Very unfair!"

Nine hours later, Trump returned to Twitter Friday morning and softened his previous tweet: "Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!"
