Anger over misting showers at Auschwitz

Some visitors to the Auschwitz Memorial in Poland were shocked over the weekend to find newly installed cooling sprinklers. Many have voiced their outrage over social media about what they say was the insensitivity of the showers. They were installed near the entrance to the museum which is near the site of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp, the largest concentration camp during the Holocaust.  Estimates are about one million people were killed at the camp.

The museum has reacted to the criticism via Facebook saying the showers were not a reference to the gas chambers, but a response to the need for visitors to cool off in sweltering temperatures.
