310-pound bull shark caught in Maryland

A commercial fisherman in Maryland had a catch to remember in St. Mary’s County.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources said Larry “Boo” Powley snagged an 8.6-foot-long, 310-pound bull shark off of Cedar Point in the Patuxent River on Monday.

The large bull shark was caught in one of Powley’s pound net trap he had set out in the water.

Bull sharks are known to consume fish, sharks and rays in fresh and shallow waters, and can be found in the Chesapeake Bay during the summertime, according to officials.

While Powley could have kept the bull shark, he told the Baltimore Sun that he threw it back into the water because they are not worth much and they also eat cownose rays, which is a predator to oysters and crabs.
