Thousands of New York City children are off from school for spring break. Some parents have chosen a staycation. That could require as much planning as a vacation. Here are some ideas.

1. Spring break activities are blooming in the Discovery Garden at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

"The Discovery Garden is a one-acre, hands-on garden. Kids are allowed to touch and smell all of the plants. It's in smaller habitats," Meera Jagroop of Brooklyn Botanic Garden said. "We have a four seasons garden that has lots of flowers blooming. There's a Marsha area with a little pond and there are lots of critters, insects that kids can look at."

Kids can play outdoor music on a marimba, admire the blooming cherry blossoms, and even dig up a garden.
