3 mobile apps for coffee lovers

Some of us can't get through the day without that morning cup of coffee. And even then that jolt of java may not be enough. Luckily, you can use a few apps to get the most out of your coffee.

If you're new to the coffee scene and want to have a first crack at speaking your barista's language before she whips out her steam wand, then download the Barista Coffee Glossary app. Make sure your French press doesn't become a French roast by learning this caffeine-fused language.

This A-to-Z dictionary app includes over 450 different coffee definitions. Whether it's your first cup or you're a coffee connoisseur, this app will help you keep  your drip brew from going drip dry.

Impress your friends and family by mastering coffee designs through the Art of Coffee app, Mashable's Lance Ulanoff says. The app will show you step-by-step how to do more than 30 designs. Create a simple heart to show your love or surprise a friend with a Rosetta in their cup.

Designs incorporate both etching and free-pour techniques. Art of Coffee uses three methods to help the user learn each design: written instructions, step-by-step photos, and videos.

It also has a troubleshooting section to help you along the way. Art of Coffee will create a whole new experience to making coffee.

Support independent coffee shops by downloading the CUPS app. Using your GPS location, this app will direct to you to local coffee shops from Hoboken to Brooklyn.

More than 200 shops are in its database. Choose the coffee shop you want to visit, then choose your drink, and pay through the app. You can also order a snack to go with your cup of java.

Ulanoff says you get 15 percent off your coffee purchase if you buy through the app. And don't forget to tip your barista—all from the palm of your hand.
