Detectives charged a man found hiding in a basement closet of a Brooklyn home with beating to death a college professor whose body was found nearby. Police responded to a 911 call just before 6 p.m. Monday about a burglary in progress at 155 Statford Road in Flatbush when they found the body of Jeremy Safran, 66, a professor at the New School, on the floor. He had suffered trauma to the head and body. A hammer was reportedly discovered near his body.

A grand jury on Wednesday indicted Dorothy Bruns on 10 counts, including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and assault charges. Police then arrested her at her home and brought her to court in Brooklyn to face a judge. She pleaded not guilty.

On a beautiful Thursday in Brooklyn, construction began on the restoration of the Flatbush Avenue perimeter of Prospect Park. The sidewalk was in terrible shape, according to Prospect Park Alliance President Sue Donoghue. The 1,500-foot sidewalk along Flatbush Avenue will be expanded into a 30-foot promenade filled with 125 trees. This project is a partnership between the New York City's Parks Without Borders program and the Prospect Park Alliance.

The 26-year-old's dismembered body was found in Canarsie Park in Brooklyn on Monday evening. A dog walker found Odom's head and naked torso covered in leaves, police said. Her arms and legs were later discovered nearby. The NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline is offering $10,000 for any information that helps solve this heinous crime.

Brooklyn Kura is the brainchild of Brooklyn native Brian Polen and Brandon Doughan of Portland, Oregon, who met at a mutual friend's wedding in Japan five years ago. The two men took the sake knowledge they learned in Japan and started home brewing. A few weeks ago, the doors opened at Brooklyn Kura where they produce a high-grade sake called ginjo. It is made of four ingredients: rice, water, yeast, and koji, which is rice inoculated with a special and safe mold.

A car struck a group of pedestrians in Brooklyn Monday afternoon, killing two children and injuring at least two other people, the mayor said. The horrific incident happened near the intersection of 9th Street and 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Mayor Bill de Blasio said at an unrelated announcement at City Hall Monday. Responders rushed the victims to Methodist Hospital. Doctors pronounced a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old dead. Two women are being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The famous in-store brand 365 is offered, but so are a handful of other affordable brands.
