MTA tests audio ads on NYC subway platforms as riders raise noise concerns
The MTA is testing audio advertisements in select subway and commuter rail stations as part of a pilot program aimed at increasing revenue. The 30-second ads promote media and entertainment events, including TV shows, movies and concerts. They play over public address systems every 10 minutes and are capped at 75 decibels — about the level of a typical conversation. Only one advertiser per station is allowed each day. Some commuters say the added noise could make it harder to hear service announcements, while others say they would support the ads if the revenue helps improve safety and service. Riders’ reactions could determine whether the program continues beyond June. FOX 5’s Kendall Green reports.
