An award show's worth of celebrities of varying proximities to the people and neighborhoods ravaged by Hurricane Harvey gathered in a studio in Times Square Tuesday to answer telephone calls from strangers wanting to donate money to relieve, repair, and rebuild those areas under water.

Floods cause greater property damage and more deaths than a hurricane's winds or tornadoes. Hurricane Harvey produced more than 50 inches of rainfall over the Houston area, which was not equipped to handle such a large amount of precipitation.

A couple from Houston is stranded in New York, fearing if they won't have a home to go back to. All they know is their neighborhood is under water. A group of Superstorm Sandy survivors is helping the couple through this desperate time.

Federal and local agencies have rescued more than 13,000 people in Houston and the surrounding areas in the aftermath of massive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. Volunteers and residents with boats are also helping thousands who are stranded. The Houston Police Department lost one of its own Sgt. Steve Perez was on his way to work in the dark when he drowned in the flood waters.

U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter crews have rescued thousands of people from flooded communities in the Houston area. The Coast Guard has seven MH-60 Jayhawks and 14 MH-65 Dolphins flying missions.

American Red Cross volunteers from New Jersey are heading south to help storm victims in Texas and Louisiana. The New Jersey chapter sent emergency vehicles to help those whose lives have been turned upside down by the flooding.

The Empire State Building remained dark Monday night in honor of those affected by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey, which caused catastrophic flooding in the Houston area. The nation's fourth-largest city was still largely paralyzed days after the storm made landfall.
