Woman punched in head in Upper West Side hate crime attack: NYPD

NEW YORK - The NYPD is searching for a suspect wanted for an alleged hate crime that occurred on the Upper West Side last month.
What we know:
Police say that on Thursday, January 16, at around 8 p.m., a 54-year-old woman was riding a "1" train near the Columbus Circle subway station, when she was approached by the suspect, who made anti-Asian statements towards her.
The suspect then allegedly punched the woman in the head, before fleeing the 59th Street subway station on foot to parts unknown.
The victim was treated at a hospital for her injuries, and has since been released.
The NYPD has classified the incident as a hate crime and is actively investigating.
What's next:
Police have released an image of the suspect in the hopes that the public can identify them.
