TSA: Man busted at airport blames mom for the rifle in his bag

A man trying to get through security at an airport outside Baltimore blamed his mother for the rifle in his luggage, officials said.

An officer at an X-ray checkpoint at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, spotted the .40-caliber collapsible rifle inside the traveler's carry-on bag back on October 12, 2018, according to the TSA.

The TSA called Maryland Transportation Authority police officers, who seized the rifle and arrested the man on a weapons charge.

The man, a resident of Hagerstown, Maryland, said he didn't know the firearm was in his bag because his mother packed his luggage, the TSA said.

TSA officers have spotted at least 20 firearms at BWI's security checkpoints so far this year.
