NEW JERSEY (FOX5NY) - Police in New Jersey say a man's arm was severed when he crashed his motorcycle during a street race and it remains missing.
36-year-old Ronald Vanarsdale was injured very early Thursday morning in along Route 37 in Toms River. Police say witnesses saw the Toms River man riding with multiple motorcycles before he crashed and was thrown 326 feet at the Tunney Bridge.
Authorities say Vanarsdale's right arm and hand were severed below his bicep.
Toms River Police Sgt. Ed Mooney arrived on the scene and applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
Vanarsdale was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. Police say he is in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
Authorities say they haven't found the victim's severed limb. They asked that if anyone finds the missing forearm and hand to please call police at 732-349-0150. The New Jersey State Police Marine Division was also notified about the missing limb.
Police say that charges are pending and no one else was hurt in the crash.
