Cybersigilism tattoos: Why Gen Z is obsessed with this high-tech ink style

A new tattoo trend is now grabbing the attention of Gen Z called "Cybersigilism".

What's all the buzz about Cybersigilism?

What they're saying:

In the tattoo world, ink tells a story, and Cybersigilism is the latest chapter.

This style fuses traditional tribal tattoos with futuristic, digital patterns.

Koral Ladna, tattoo artist and co-owner of the Fortune and Love shop in Midtown, shares, "Every couple of years, there's a movement that reshapes the tattoo industry, and Cyber is definitely one of those styles. We're seeing the evolution of tattoo styles in the same way that art history has evolved."

Ladna is known for weaving her unique cosmic colorism style into her designs, adding depth and vibrancy.

Koral further explains, "This style reflects a lot about our society today. There's a hidden complexity to it—it looks one way, but there’s a whole programming layer behind it."

Understanding the appeal

The other side:

Cybersigilism stands out by blending age-old symbols with modern design elements and a touch of nature to create something entirely new.

In the tattoo world, these aren’t just tattoos; they are personal sigils crafted from geometry and hidden meanings.

Juan Pablo, an artist at Hustle Butter Tattoo in SoHo, praises the style: "It's organic, it's super interesting, and flows really well with the body."

Celebrity influence

Dig deeper:

Celebrities like Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa have embraced the trend, drawing even more attention to a style that’s becoming increasingly popular with Gen Z—those in their late teens and 20s.

Tattoo enthusiast Devin Noir explains the allure: "It invokes a sense of power. If angels were on Earth, this is the tattoos they would get... It's not about what it means to someone else, it's about what it means to me."

Should you jump on the Cybersigilism bandwagon?

If you're thinking about getting inked, Cybersigilism offers a bold way to express your individuality and beliefs.

"They express what they want. You know, I don't care if the rules are like that. I do what I want. This is what I want and what I need," says Emmanuel Fortunato, a striking portrait artist and co-owner at Fortune and Love. "It takes a little bit of all the pieces and puts them all together to express themselves."
