NEW YORK - Are you bored of the usual overpriced open-bar New Year's Eve party at that way-too-trendy cocktail joint in Brooklyn? Instead, hop on a plane and have an experience that you'll remember for the rest of your life. The KAYAK Holiday Travel Hacker says Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is going to be the place to visit to ring in 2016.
KAYAK released a list of the Top 10 Trending New Year's Eve Destinations based on the biggest hike in New Year's flight searches from last year. Dubai saw a 70-percent hike in searches.
"KAYAK’s list of Trending New Year’s Eve Destinations offers a getaway for everyone, ranging from exotic locales like Dubai and Reykjavik to local getaways including Atlanta and Chicago," David Solomito, North America brand director for KAYAK, said in an email. "These cities represent the hottest spots to ring in the New Year."
One travel expert agreed that Dubai is a great destination.
"While [Dubai] has an amazing celebration display for New Year's, I can't say I'd put it at number one, but it is absolutely worth the holiday visit," said Evita Robinson, the founder of Nomadness Travel Tribe. "You can't beat their weather during the normally cold holiday months that much of the world endures."
The United States doesn't even break the top five; Atlanta is the highest-ranked U.S. city at No. 6.
This is the full list:
1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
2. Cartagena, Colombia
3. Barcelona, Spain
4. Reykjavik, Iceland
5. Tokyo, Japan
6. Atlanta
7. Santiago, Chile
8. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
9. Chicago
10, Vancouver, Canada
Nomadness' Robinson suggested that Rio should be tops. "It's known, worldwide, for [its] all-white beach festivities," she said. "I would definitely override those aforementioned for Rio."
