AI researches harassment law
A brand-new tool called Botler AI is helping people understand their legal rights through artificial intelligence. Botler AI is the brainchild of Montreal-based founders Amir Moravej and Ritika Dutt. It all began when Amir was dealing with an immigration dispute and started to read cases online. Then the #metoo movement started and the focus of the project shifted to help victims of sexual misconduct. Botler AI uses artificial intelligence, which is intelligence demonstrated by a machine. Algorithms scan through hundreds of thousands of U.S. and Canadian criminal court documents related to sexual crimes. After a series of questions, Botler AI determines if there may be cause for legal action and it generates an incident report, which users can then hand over to a lawyer or to authorities.

Chatting digital assistants?
Ask Siri, the iPhone and now HomePod's digital assistant, if she knows Alexa, Amazon's competitor, and she'll respond with one of her pre-programmed responses. Often something like: "I'm sorry. I'm afraid I don't have an answer to that." That answer is a lie. And we can thank the YouTube user danrl, among others, for recording and uploading the proof to call shenanigans on Apple's duplicitous personal assistant, the first speaking machine many of us ever integrated into our lives.
