New York City police detectives are investigating if the murders of two next-door neighbors in a Brooklyn building are connected. The killings took place inside the Bushwick Houses at 140 Moore Street. In the most recent case, Basil Gray, 54, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was dead inside his apartment when police arrived about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

NYPD Detective Dalsh Veve got a hero's send-off as he left the Kessler Rehabilitation Institute in West Orange, New Jersey, with his 3-year-old daughter on his lap and his wife Esther at his side. On June 3, 2017, Veve was investigating gunfire reports and started to question a teen suspect who sped off in a stolen car. Police said the car dragged Veve three blocks, but the officer managed to get off two shots.

Marty Golden, a former cop, has proposed one of four separate pieces of legislation to tighten parole rules, including mandatory life sentences and no parole for those convicted of killing a police officer. Family, friends and the Canarsie community gathered on Thursday night at the scene of the crime to remember Brandy Odom. The 26-year-old's dismembered body was found in Canarsie Park in Brooklyn on Monday evening. A dog walker found Odom's head and naked torso covered in leaves, police said. Her arms and legs were later discovered nearby. The NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline is offering $10,000 for any information that helps solve this heinous crime.

The New York State Board of Parole has approved the release of a notorious convicted cop killer who was a member of a radical group in the 1970s. Herman Bell, 70, and two other members of the Black Liberation Army were convicted of luring Patrolman Joseph Piagentini and Patrolman Waverly Jones to a housing complex in Harlem with a 911 call and then shooting them to death in 1971. Authorities said Jones died from a single shot but Piagentini was shot 22 times. A judge sentenced Bell in 1979 to 25 years to life. New York did not have the death penalty at that time.

Authorities on Wednesday charged a Brooklyn man in connection with a deadly package explosion that was meant for a cop but instead killed a landlord in Queens in 2017. A joint FBI, ATF, and NYPD investigation has been underway since the summer 2017 explosion outside of a rental house in Springfield Gardens. In the course of the probe, agents and officers searched a home in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. Federal prosecutors charged Victor Kingsley, 37, with using a weapon of mass destruction as part of a plot to get revenge against cops that arrested him in January 2014, according to the United States Attorney's Office. But no officers lived at the home.

Monahan always knew he wanted to join law enforcement, but claims he never expected to get this far.

A former high school teacher was accused on Thursday of paying students to dismantle fireworks for gunpowder so he could eventually make a bomb and was ordered held without bail. Christian Toro was charged in a federal complaint with offenses including unlawfully making an explosive. His brother, Tyler Toro, also was arrested in the case. There was no immediate response to requests for comment from their attorneys.

A police officer who fatally shot a mentally ill woman in her New York apartment in 2016 after she brandished scissors and a bat was acquitted by a judge Thursday. New York Police Department Sgt. Hugh Barry was found not guilty of murder, manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in the death of Deborah Danner. Defense attorney Andrew Quinn said "we've always felt confident we would win but you never know" until the verdict is announced.

The letter was sent to a Manhattan apartment owned by Vanessa Trump, the president' daughter-in-law. Her mother lives in the home. Vanessa Trump reportedly opened a letter about 10 a.m. that was addressed to her husband. Police said that she called 911 a short time later and said she was coughing and felt nauseous.

NYPD detectives are investigating a double killing of a couple who owned a religious goods store in Brooklyn. Cops found Stephenson Bonaparte, 65, on the sidewalk in front of the home and Hazel Brown, 59, in the doorway of the home. Both had been stabbed several times, the NYPD said. Brown was dead. Medics brought Bonaparte to Kings County Hospital where he died, police said.
