Richt Will Not Coach UGA in Upcoming Bowl Game

Outgoing Georgia head football coach Mark Richt will not coach the Bulldogs in their upcoming bowl game. The school made the announcement Thursday afternoon. Assistant head coach/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon will serve as interim head coach.

"I¹ve asked Bryan to assume all administrative duties of the head coach," said director of athletics Greg McGarity in a statement from the school. "This will be the least disruptive option for our players and staff as they begin preparations for our bowl game."

According to the school's release, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt as well as other assistants will maintain their usual roles.

Richt is widely reported to be getting ready to accept the head coaching job at the University of Miami. Richt played quarterback for the Hurricanes from 1979-1982. Miami says they will announce their new head coach Friday at 10 a.m.
