Young people to rally at March for Our Lives New York

NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - For the past month, Kelly Rogers, a freshman at City College, has been helping to organize the New York City edition of the nationwide March for Our Lives, set for Saturday, March 24, 2018. Last she heard, 30,000 people are attending—at least.

"There's 4 million of us out there that are for the first time eligible to vote, this election," Rogers said. "And we're all pissed off. So, good luck."

Friday night, Kelly did some last-minute volunteer organizing. She said that the march is only part of the action being taken.

"It primarily serves as a starting point," Rogers said. "We're pushing voter registration like crazy so that we can really encourage people to get to the polls because these midterm elections are so important if we want to see change."

City Council Speaker Corey Johnson said that America's youth always spark societal change. 

"If you look at every movement in American history—the civil rights movement, the LGBT rights movement, the anti-war movement and this movement for gun control—they have always been led by young people," Johnson said.

The public entrance for the rally and march is at West 72nd Street and Central Park West. The rally starts at 11 a.m. and the march begins at noon.
