Wildlife trappers caught 240 gators at Disney over 10 years

The alligator that attacked and killed a 2-year-old boy at a Disney World resort is no longer a threat.  Florida wildlife officials say they caught and killed it.

The officials say they came to the conclusion after careful analysis by a team of experts, including a bite expert.

Six alligators were pulled out of the water after last week's deadly attack outside the Grand Floridian.  The 2-year-old, Lane Graves, was standing on a beach area along the shore when he was pulled into the water by the alligator.  His body was found almost a day later.

The Fish & Wildlife Commission says, since it believes it caught the alligator, it is no longer trapping any others in the lagoon.

Meanwhile, Records released by FWC officials say 240 nuisance alligators have been trapped on Walt Disney World property over the past decade.

The commission released the records after a public-records request from the Orlando Sentinel. The agency listed 15 alligators caught on Disney property from the beginning of this year through May. It didn't include the six trapped since the June 14 attack and it didn't specify where the gators were captured.

Last year, 16 gators were captured on Disney property. Statewide, 6,706 alligators were harvested in 2014, the most recent year reflected in the agency's statistics.

Disney didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
