Tourists and locals are used to seeing a lot of police officers in Times Square, but the New York City Police Department confirmed that it deployed some more heavily armed officers around the city after the terror attack in Barcelona.

The department said it was "closely monitoring" what happened in Spain.

"Currently, there are NO specific threats to #NYC. However, we monitor events across the globe & redeploy assets accordingly," the NYPD's Counterterrorism Bureau said via Twitter.

Fox 5 saw an increased police presence in Columbus Circle. The NYPD also beefed up security around Spain's diplomatic properties in the city, according to Assistant Commissioner J. Peter Donald.
