A little girl from Snellville, who has a smile that will melt your heart, has been kicking cancer’s butt for more than two years.

Peyton Greene, 5, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in March of 2014. She's been considered in remission since day 29 of her battle, but her family said “cure” is not a term used until she has been off treatment, with no relapse, for five years.

Last month, Peyton celebrated a big milestone. She received her final treatment after undergoing chemotherapy for 844 days.

“Peyton has the most amazing spirit,” father O.J. Greene told FOX 5’s Katie Muse. “It's as if she knows how close she came to dying, so she lives large.”

In late July, Peyton and her family, along with some prayer warriors, climbed Stone Mountain to celebrate the end of treatment.

“Thank you Jesus for walking us through this storm," her family said on Facebook.

In the weeks to follow, Peyton got sick with fungal pneumonia and spent a number of days at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

"Peyton is doing really well," Mr. Greene told FOX 5 on Tuesday. "The pneumonia is clearing up nicely and the spots of mold eating her lungs are healing well."

On Monday, August 22, Peyton is scheduled to have her port removed.

"She is getting stronger by the day," Greene said. "Our journey and our fight for other kids in the battle will never be over."

Greene said his family hopes to further their own personal fight against cancer to help other children battling the awful disease.

We learned about Peyton’s battle with cancer through photographer Brandy Angel, who featured the brave fighter on her website “Be The Change - Brandy Angel Foundation.” Angel works with both adults and children in need and helps raise awareness by sharing their stories on social media.
