Manhattan family tied up in terrifying home invasion

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A man with a knife threw a mother and daughter to the ground of their apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side before tying them up and robbing them, police said.

The terrifying assault occurred inside 306 West 78th St. near West End Ave. at about 3 p.m. on Thursday.  The 24-year-old daughter and her mother were forced into their apartment, where the attacker, dressed in Army fatigues, used eletrical tape to tie them up.

When the father arrived home he was ordered into the apartment by the suspect while putting a knife to the daughter's neck, added police.

The 30-year-old suspect who was not named, but was reportedly on parole for burglary and is believed to be a gang member, took the family's credit cards.

The daughter managed to call police who arrested the man a few minutes later on the street.

Once at the precint, the suspect attempted to assault several officers and was stun gunned and taken to Bellevue Hospital, according to police. Charges were pending.
