Leslie Odom Jr. and Phil Collins to sing at U.S. Open ceremony

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Former "Hamilton" star and Tony Award winner Leslie Odom Jr., a Queens native, will head to Flushing Meadows to sing a duet with pop legend Phil Collins at the opening night ceremony of the U.S. Open, the USTA announced. Odom will also sing the national anthem.

The ceremony, set for Monday, August 29, 2016, will celebrate Arthur Ashe Stadium's new retractable roof, which took three years to build.

The FDNY Color Guard and NYPD Honor Guard will accompany Odom for the "Star Spangled Banner." The USTA is planning a light show for the performance.

Odom won a Tony for his acclaimed performance as Vice President Aaron Burr in the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical "Hamilton," created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. He debuted on Broadway in "Rent" when he was 17.

Collins has won numerous Grammy Awards and has sold millions of albums as a solo artist and with the legendary British band Genesis.

The U.S. Open, one of tennis' Grand Slam tournaments, will be played at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park from August 29 through September 11.
