Lawsuit: LaCroix not 'natural' and contains ingredients used in cockroach insecticide

UPDATE: The National Beverage Corporation categorically denies all allegations in this lawsuit filed without basis in fact or law regarding the natural composition of its LaCroix sparkling waters. Natural flavors in LaCroix are derived from the natural essence oils from the named fruit used in each of the flavors.  All essences are certified by their suppliers to be 100% natural.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the company who makes LaCroix sparkling water's parent company National Beverage Corporation for apparently falsely claiming the beverage to be "all natural" and "100% natural." The filing states that testing reveals LaCroix contains a number of artificial ingredients, including linalool, limonene, and linalool propionate.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit, Lenora Rice, was led to purchase LaCroix because of the claims on the packaging that says it is natural; however, LaCroix contains ingredients that have been identified by the FDA as synthetic.  Those chemicals include limonene -- which can cause kidney toxicity and tumors, linalool propionate -- which is used to treat cancer, and linalool -- which is used in cockroach insecticide.

 The lawsuit states:

LaCroix and National Beverage are aware of the synthetic chemicals contained in LaCroix sparking water, and yet they intentionally misled consumers into believing LaCroix all-natural in order to drive sales of the product.

The lawsuit seeks to stop LaCroix from falsely labeling and promoting its products as natural and to award damages to those individuals who purchased LaCroix under this inaccurate depiction.
