HOWELL, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in Monmouth County have found at least 200 dogs living in a home in Howell in what one official called "deplorable" conditions.

Officials tell The Asbury Park Press the dogs were discovered Thursday evening after an animal control officer was called to find a dog that had gotten loose.

Officials from the SPCA and Humane Society along with police and the county sheriff's and health department were on the scene Friday.

The dogs are described as small breeds.

On its Facebook page, the Monmouth County sheriff's office says it's the worst animal hoarding case they've ever seen.

Officials say charges are expected to be filed against the couple who live in the bi-level house.
