What they're saying:

"The good news is I'm responding really well to meds and treatments and I'm improving every day," the 80-year-old country icon said in a short video posted to her official Instagram account. "Now the bad news is, it's going to take me a little while before I'm up to stage-performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a lit bit swimmy headed, as my grandma used to say."

She continued, "And of course, I can’t be dizzy carrying around banjos, guitars, and such on five-inch heels — and you know that I’m going to be wearing them."

She added, "Not to mention, all those heavy rhinestone outfits, the big hair, my big … uh, personality. Lord, those — that would make anybody swimmy headed!"

She didn’t share too many details about her health but clarified that she’s always "had problems with my kidney stones," and that her immune system and digestive system "got all out of whack over the past couple three years and they’re working real hard on rebuilding and strengthening those."

"And hopefully I'll be up to snuff again too," she said.

She also clarified that her doctors have assured her "that everything I have is treatable, so I'm going with that."

She said that she is still working on opening her museum and hotel in Nashville as well as her forthcoming Broadway musical, "Dolly: A True Original Musical," opening in New York later this year.

Dolly Parton's health concerns

The other side:

This news follows a series of previous health challenges for Parton.

In September, Parton told fans that she needed to undergo a "few procedures," but wouldn't be quitting the music business any time soon.

"I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts," Parton shared online. "As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures."

The "Jolene" singer was scheduled to perform in Sin City at the end of 2025, with six performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

"As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it's not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon," Parton continued. "In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see."

Last year, she was also unable to attend the announcement of a new ride at her Tennessee theme park, Dollywood, due to health issues.

In October, her sister, Freida, sparked concern when she posted on social media that she had been praying for Parton and was asking for others to do the same.

The next day, Parton eased the minds of her fans and posted a video to Instagram. "I wanted to say, I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I'm working hard here."

She said her doctor urged her to take care of a few things, but reassured her fans it was "nothing major."

She captioned the post, "I ain't dead yet!"

Parton performs on occasion but hasn’t toured since her "Pure & Simple Tour" ended in 2016.
