Cars hit 3 LI pedestrians, killing 1, in 20-minute span

MASSAPEQUA PARK, N.Y. (AP) — An elderly woman was killed and two other people were hurt within a 20-minute span in separate incidents involving pedestrians getting hit by vehicles on Long Island.

Police say the woman was struck by an SUV around 10:47 p.m. Friday while attempting to cross Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A few minutes earlier, an exchange student from Korea was hit by a car and seriously injured while walking on a street in Huntington Station.

Suffolk County police say 19-year-old Sung Hyun Bae was hit around 10:40 p.m. as he and two other people were walking in the middle of East Pulaski Road.

About 10 minutes before that, a man attempting to cross Washington Avenue in Brentwood was struck by a car and seriously injured.

Police have not released the names of the woman and the man in the Brentwood incident.

None of the drivers were hurt. No charges have been filed.
