LAKE MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Cameron Fulling is one of Lake Mary's youngest firefighters -- at least for a day. The 9-year-old boy, who is battling brain cancer, wants to be a firefighter. On Wednesday afternoon, the Lake Mary Fire Department made that wish come true.
"I take kids that are terminally ill with cancer, and I make them a firefighter for a day," says Lieutenant Bruce Williams of the LMFD. It's apart of the station's "Give Kids Their Day" program.
Cameron got suited up, got some training, and went on a ride. Afterward, he told us "putting the sirens on," was his favorite part. For an hour, Cameron was just one of the guys. Williams says giving children, like Cameron, the freedom to be kids, is why he started the program.
"That's what I like to do," Williams said. "For one hour, they're not thinking of their sickness, their illness."
When we asked Cameron why he wanted to be a fireman, his answer was simple: "Cause you go into fires."
