Body found in Brooklyn apartment before fire, officials say
An apartment fire in Bay Ridge in under investigation after the NYPD said officers found a body inside hours before it started.
NEW YORK - The FDNY is investigating a fire at a Brooklyn apartment where police found a body hours earlier.
What we know:
The fire happened at around 1 a.m. Monday at a six-story building in Bay Ridge.
Video shows flames bursting out of the sixth-floor apartment at 99-49 Shore Road.
While the FDNY said no one was injured in the fire, the NYPD said officers were already investigating a body inside the apartment hours before it started.
Police did not have a chance to remove the body before the fire broke out, according to officials.
What we don't know:
The identity of the body and cause of death are unknown at this time.
The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
