4th day of NJ Transit train service disruptions

It's turned out to be another really bad commute for NJ Transit riders on Friday.  It was the fourth day this week with problems during either the morning or afternoon commute.

Friday's problems were blamed on an Amtrak overhead wire problem.  .

NJ Transit buses were cross-honoring train passes and private carrier buses, PATH at 33rd, Hoboken, Newark and NY Waterway in South Ferry at Hoboken Terminal.

Trains into and out of Penn Station New York were subject to 30-minute delays.  The @NJTransit Twitter account had not updated the situation for more than 4 hours after the problems began.

NJ Transit trains run into the city on tracks owned by Amtrak.  The worst problems this week happened during the Wednesday morning rush hour when service was completely stopped for nearly two hours because of a power problem that was blamed on Amtrak.  There were also lengthy delays during the Monday evening rush and Tuesday morning rush hours.

NJ Transit Executive Director Veronique Hakim issued a statement about the disruption: "Once again this week, Amtrak power disruptions along the Northeast Corridor have wreaked havoc with the commutes of NJ TRANSIT customers. We want to assure our customers that we are taking all steps necessary to hold Amtrak accountable for these service disruptions and infrastructure failures.  Amtrak must take every available action to resolve its continuing problems that are creating chaos for our customers."

NJ Transit riders mocked the apology on Twitter, especially since the problems came just days after the railroad announced 9% fare increases.
