4 soldiers seriously injured on NJ Turnpike

NEW JERSEY (FOX 5 NEWS) - Four soldiers with the Army Reserves seriously injured when their Humvee blew a tire and overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike remain hospitalized.

Sgt. Theodore Jackson, 40, of Lincoln Park, New Jersey, is in critical condition.

Spc. Marcos Santana, 24, of Poughkeepsie, New York, remains in serious condition.

Deborah Perez, 25, of Brooklyn, New York sustained serious leg injuries. Officials have not released her rank or condition.

The driver, Sgt. Gedry Concepcion-Munez, 24, of The Bronx, New York, is in serious condition.

The injured soldiers from Unit 533rd Brigade Support Battalion stationed at Fort Totten in Queens, are being treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

One of the injured soldiers was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

Photos from the scene Thursday afternoon show the mangled truck upside-down against a guardrail. Soldiers used a jack to lift the Humvee off the trapped passengers. One of its tires had fallen off.

The incident occurred in the southbound lanes near mile marker 74.9 in South Brunswick.
