Study: Drug lowers heart risks

A drug trial looked at 10,000 high-risk heart attack patients in 40 countries. Doctors administered the drug canakinumab, initially developed by Novartis to treat rheumatoid arthritis. What they found in this trial was a 15-percent reduction in the risk of repeat attack attacks. That drop was so massive that the findings are being called the biggest breakthrough since the advent of statins to lower cholesterol.
