Judge denies bid to drop assault charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver

A federal judge refused to dismiss assault charges against New Jersey Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, accused of attacking a federal officer during a visit to a Newark ICE detention center in May. McIver’s legal team argued the prosecution was politically motivated and that her actions were protected by her role in Congress — but the judge rejected both claims. McIver has pleaded not guilty.
