Catholics across the world are celebrating the election of Pope Leo XIV — the first American and naturalized Peruvian pontiff. But for one community in Paterson, New Jersey, the moment is deeply personal. Before becoming pontiff, Pope Leo XIV — born in Chicago — served as Archbishop of Chiclayo and spent years as a missionary in the South American country.
