A New York City street has been renamed in honor of a police officer who was ambushed and killed last year in a parked police vehicle. What is now Detective Miosotis Familia Way is part of Ryer Avenue by the Bronx stationhouse where Familia worked. A renaming ceremony was held Thursday, the anniversary of her death.

Therese Okoumou, who goes by Patricia, walked out of federal court a free woman the day after scaling the Statue of Liberty to protest President Donald Trump's immigration policy. Her protest forced the evacuation of liberty island on one of its busiest days of the year?the 4th of July holiday. Okoumo, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from the Republic of Congo, pled not guilty to misdemeanor charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct, and interference with government function.

A woman climbed the exterior of the structure of the Statue of Liberty and then sat down by one of the statue's feet around 4 p.m., authorities said. U.S. Park Police and NYPD officers spent hours trying to talk her down. She spent some time sitting, lying, and moving around the base. At one point, she removed her sneakers and tried to climb higher on the statue but wasn't able to get any higher.

He works in the criminal records department and distributes mail throughout the building. He has his own personal mail cart with his name on it. Peter has proudly worked for the NYPD for 44 years.

Arrests in Bronx murder

Police have made several arrests in connection with last week's killing of a 15-year-old boy at a Bronx bodega. The NYPD arrested Kevin Alvarez, 19, of the Bronx, on Sunday. He was charged with murder and gang assault. Law enforcement sources told Fox 5 News that police in New Jersey took three suspects into custody. A fifth suspect was reportedly picked up in the Dominican Republic.

Fox 5 first reported about Nick Calabrese in May. At 101, he is the oldest living retired NYPD detective and was honored by the Detectives Endowment Association. The Yankees heard about Nick and invited him to Yankee Stadium for a special visit.

Two bills set to be introduced in the New York City Council this week aim to curb parking placard abuse. Many of the holders of the 160,000 legally issued placards in circulation in New York City use them to park in no standing zones, bus lanes, or bike lanes without being ticketed.

With an eye to a possible future where marijuana is legal in New York State, Mayor Bill de Blasio wants the New York Police Department to stop arresting people for smoking pot in public and instead hand out summonses. The mayor's remarks came less than a week after he directed the police department to overhaul its marijuana enforcement policies in the next 30 days.

The courts are scrutinizing the releasing of videos from police body cameras. A New York State appellate judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the NYPD from releasing officers' body camera videos to the public. This is a temporary victory for the union that represents rank-and-file cops. The PBA sued the city to prevent any police body camera video from ever being made public. The PBA lost the case in a lower court and appealed.
