Wrong-way head-on crash on Route 3

SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say at least two people were injured when an elderly wrong-way driver crashed head-on into another vehicle on a bridge in New Jersey bridge.

The crash on the Hackensack River Bridge on Route 3 West in Secaucus occurred around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Secaucus police say a preliminary investigation found an elderly woman was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when the crash occurred.

Both drivers were being treated at a hospital. But their names and further details on their injuries were not disclosed.

Major traffic backups were still being reported in the area late Wednesday morning. Authorities were forced to close several westbound lanes of the highway and rubbernecking delays were being reported on the eastbound side of Route 3.
